In 2020 we were all stuck at home. I took this time to find “my game”. The one game I could always go back to and play. The one you remember playing years ago and years later.

I had tried a few: League of Legends, Dota, Overwatch, even small ones like doing sudoku or some random game I found on itch.io.

But one day I decided to play Fortnite and it all changed. I met two people in a public match which would spiral into a friend group that I play games with weekly to this day. It was a perfect storm of being stuck at home, wanting to make friends, play a game, and keep playing that game for years.

Every Monday, Tuesday and every other weekend I play Fortnite on discord with the same people. I couldn’t have made it through the pandemic without them. Truly. We would stay up on discord not even playing sometimes. Just laughing at stupid things that happened.

Fortnite has changed but it’s still there. Some of the friends in our group have left but a core of 6-8 stays. We are of all ages so it’s fun being the older one that gets to see what stage of life they are in.

I can’t wait to continue to play Fortnite with them for years to come.
